UK jail for HIV Zim rapist

A WOMAN faced an agonising wait for blood test results after she was brutally raped by an HIV-positive Zimbabwean man in her home.

On Monday, evil Victor Nkomo, 43, was beginning a 10-year-jail term after he was convicted by a jury at the Liverpool Crown Court.

The court heard Nkomo, who claimed he was a soldier in the British army, threatened he would kill his 25-year-old victim during the attack at a flat in Kensington, Liverpool, on March 1 this year.

Sentencing Nkomo, Justice King told him: “I have very much in mind the entire circumstances of intimidation, violence and threats, that you held the victim hostage, and the fact you were HIV-positive.

“In your pre-sentence report, you hold yourself out as a very up-standing member of the community and a Christian. On this occasion, you fell well below such a status.”

Carmel Wilde, prosecuting, said after a series of treatments it had been confirmed the woman had not caught the disease.

The court heard a Leeds woman called West Yorkshire Police in 2003 and reported she had been attacked by Nkomo who followed her into a phone booth late at night. He was never prosecuted.

The judge told Nkomo he had put of out his mind the previous rape allegations against him.

Justice King said he would leave the decision whether Nkomo should be deported in the hands of the Secretary of State.
