Harare Man to Live on the Street for the Love of Music

Speaking to The Zimbo Jam yesterday, Carl said that he was disappointed by how the issue of music piracy was not being taken seriously in Zimbabwe. “We say we are fighting piracy,” he said, “but anywhere you go on the streets and in flea markets you will find tonnes of pirated CDs.”

He has decided to take it upon himself to be change he wants to see- starting by sacrificing the comfort of his own lodgings to drive the message home that piracy impoverishes artists.

Carl is holding a press conference in Harare this afternoon (12 March 2010) to explain his actions. After that, he will move straight to First Street where he will live until end of day Thursday next week (18 March).

He will have not a single cent on him, not a change of clothes, not a supply of food. Zilch- save for his sleeping bag and his phone. “I want to survive on the street. I will deal with issues like food when the need arises,” he said. He has also been assured some measure of police protection by the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
