APA-Harare (Zimbabwe) Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on Thursday launched a report that highlights rampant torture of human rights defenders and opposition activists allegedly committed by state security agents since 2000.

APA-Harare (Zimbabwe) Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on Thursday launched a report that highlights rampant torture of human rights defenders and opposition activists allegedly committed by state security agents since 2000.

Titled “Cries from Goromonzi : Inside Zimbabwe’s Torture Chambers”, the report contains 23 harrowing testimonies from individuals tortured between 2000 and 2009, including senior officials from Tsvangirai’s Movement For Democratic Change (MDC) who are members of the country’s coalition government.

The report seeks to expose torture camps, the prevalence of the use of torture and acts as a catalyst for security sector reforms in Zimbabwe.

Several political and human rights activists have been subject to torture in Zimbabwe in various Torture Chambers for months.
